I'm
not a world class athlete - can I still join an expedition?
|
| Yes!
We have had many clients who have not been in peak physical
condition - though we require that all participants make a serious
effort to pre-expedition training (Champagne flights excluded).
Every ounce of training and preparation will help to make your
expedition more enjoyable and safer. Most of our expeditions
do not require tremendous skill - rather, they demand endurance
and a positive attitude. We can help you acquire the training
that you need to have the best possible expedition. Back

What
else is important to know?
|
| When
it comes to any kind of Polar travel, flexibility is the golden
rule. Not only do you have to be adaptable to the extreme environment,
but you need to keep your travel arrangements as flexible as
possible. All sorts of things can alter the itinerary of your
adventure including weather delays, changes in scheduling of
the charter air, evacuations, and many other factors. Avoid
any scheduling that cannot be changed easily (including flights
and other commitments). Contact us for suggestions on how to
make flexible travel plans. Back to top |

Can
I cancel after I register?
|
| Yes!
If you change your mind you can cancel up to 120 days before
your expedition you can cancel and receive all of your money
back (less a $200 fee for NP trips and a $1,200 fee for SP trips).
Our cancellation policy is as follows: Cancellation must be
made in writing. If you cancel more than 120 days before the
start of the expedition a $200 (NP) or $1,200 (SP) handling
fee will be assessed and your balance returned. If you cancel
90-120 days (NP) or 120 days (SP) prior to the expedition all
fees (less the above mentioned) will be credited toward another
trip with Polar Explorers. Final payment is due 90 days (NP)
or 120 days (SP) prior to the expedition after which no credit
or refund is available. Final payment must be made by check
or wire transfer. It is mandatory that you have or obtain trip
cancellation, medical and baggage insurance (ski and dogsled
participants must also have evacuation insurance.) Refunds
of deposits made by credit card are subject to a 3% processing
fee. Feel free to contact us with any questions! Back

Journal
entry #16
"I have never seen such sights. The vastness, the loveliness,
the starkness of the Arctic Ocean is indescribable."

Journal
entry #22
"Bitterly cold wind today, but I was able to keep warm and enjoy
the incredible Antarctic landscape. At one point the blowing snow blended
perfectly with the clouds in the distance, creating the impression that
the land and the sky were one.
It was stunning."

Journal
entry # 12
"Today we encountered lead after lead after lead. It seemed
that the they were acting as guards, only allowing passage
to those willing to search endlessly for a route through
the maze."

Journal
entry # 5
"The best part of the evening is sitting next to the stove calculating
our position. It is amazing how much we can drift during the course
of a day. Today we drifted several miles
to the east."

Client
tip #4
"It's going to be
one of the best memories of your life. But believe everything you are
told about the cold...at the Pole it is freezing plus! Follow the clothing
- gloves and boots recommendations especially -
to a "T". They know! There is
no tolerance for "tough guys."

Client
tip # 8
"Be prepared - take matters seriously, but enjoy yourself.
For me the shakedown trip and the expedition gave me the opportunity
to escape my world and live a dream. I was in a
land of no phones, no faxes,
no
business emergencies - a cold heaven. Based on the trip
I was able to readjust some personal values which have improved my life."
