Expedition Description

Ideal for the adventurer that wants to do it all, our Pole-to-Pole adventure is also the perfect way to turn your "Seven Summits" quest into a bid for the "Grand Slam". This incredible adventure begins with a ski expedition to the South Pole in December and January, followed up with a dogsled or ski expedition to the North Pole in April (you can also start with the North Pole expedition and follow it with the South Pole expedition the following season). Combining both expeditions in one year offers much more than a great financial value.

If you are planning to go to both Poles at some point in your life, it makes sense to do them back to back, when you will be in prime physical shape and fresh with the knowlege of how to survive and thrive in the extreme Polar conditions. You'll be amazed by the significant and subtle differences between the two Polar regions, one on shifting pack ice, the other on stable continental ice. Traveling to each Pole under your own power will reward you with an intimate Polar perspective that very few people in the world will ever have.

As with all of our other expeditions both the North Pole and South Pole expeditions are "hands-on" experiences. You'll be participating in all aspects of the expedition, including setting up camp, cooking, tracking our progress, etc. Give us a call and let us tell you more about what skills you should have prior to the expedition, and what skills we will be teaching you prior to our departure.

To ensure that you have the best possible experience, we'll help you with all aspects of your pre-expedition preparations, from choosing the right clothing to learning how to pack your sled. Back to top

Qualifications

The North & South Pole expeditions are for people who are in good shape, and who are eager to push themselves physically and mentally. Though the skiing is quite demanding, it does not require significant skill (it is very much like walking with skis on).You will need to have very good cardiovascular endurance and the ability to pull a heavy sled (between 30-40 kilos) for several hours at a time. Towards the end of the day when we stop skiing, it is critical that you have the energy reserves to set up camp, melt snow for hot tea or cocoa, and make dinner. Most importantly you need to be able to regulate your body temperature so that you do not get too cold, or too hot while you are on the move. This expedition will encounter extremely cold conditions, and living in such cold conditions 24 hours a day can be very challenging. You do not have to be a world class athlete to participate in and enjoy this expedition, but every ounce of training and preparation will help to make the expedition more enjoyable and safer. "It's going to be one of the best memories of your life. But believe everything you are told about the cold...at the Pole it is freezing plus! Follow the clothing - gloves and boots recommendations especially -
