We are ambassadors to the Polar Regions, and we take our job seriously! Let's face it. Though the polar enviornment can seem hearty, rugged and even hostile, it is actually extremely fragile. In fact, the polar regions are being more effected by climate change than any other location on the planet. At PolarExplorers we are dedicated to preserving and protecting these delicate enviornments.

We accomplish this in several ways; first, we live and work by a strong environmental ethic. We are proud to be the first polar tour operator to make all of our expeditions carbon neutral. We do this by investing in clean energy programs and tree planting campaigns around the world with Sustainable Travel International. Read more about our carbon offset program. At our home office in Wilmette, IL USA we utilize wind energy as well as energy-efficient office products to minimize our effects on the environment. We also recycle nearly 100% of all of our paper and plastic products.

What does all this have to do with your polar expedition? Experts tell us that our behavior at home is changing the future of the polar regions. We hope to educate our team members about all aspects of the polar regions including environmental threats, and inspire them to become stewards of the polar ice caps well after they return home from the Arctic and Antarctic circles. About our Carbon Offset Program

A changing climate affects us all, but the ends of the Earth have experienced a more dramatic change than anywhere else on Earth. That's why we are proud to incorporate a Carbon Offset Program on each of our expeditions. What does this mean? Every time we drive or fly in an airplane we emit carbon into the atmosphere. This carbon is one of the major factors in global climate change. By reducing the amount of carbon we produce we can minimize global warming. Similarly, increasing the amount of renewable energy resources we use we can reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere, as can planting trees.

As a part of our carbon offest program PolarExplorers will calculate the amount of carbon that is being produced as a result of an expedition. We will then plant a corresponding number of trees to absorb the exact same amount of carbon OR we will invest in renewable energy resources to "counter" the amount of carbon used on the expedition. This is called "carbon offsetting". PolarExplorers uses Sustainable Travel International to help us calculate the carbon and invest in adequate offsets.

We are proud to be leading the industry in this important path. We encourage you to contact us with any questions regarding our carbon offset program or how YOU can decrease your carbon requirements at home and while traveling.
