It was a good day for a birthday. Though the day started with more waiting (their flight was postponed from 3 PM to 6 PM) the team finally go the call to quickly head to the airport.

After loading the Antanov they flew out of Longyearbyen to the Bareno Ice Camp and onwards to their starting point at 89 degrees. They left Longyearbyen around 6 PM and arrived at Barneo at 8:15 PM local time.

After confirming their starting location with the Barneo camp manager and pilots the team transferred all their kit to the MI-8 helicopter and flew to their starting point at N 89 degrees N and E 130 degrees.

En route Keith reported seeing a few leads but nothing significant (that's good news). He also reported lots of fresh snow on the ground.

They had a small birthday celebration for Andrew who sends love and thanks to all his family and friends.

The temperature was -4 F with a clear sky and no wind. It sounds downright beautiful!

When they phoned in it was around 2 AM local time. They were just about to eat dinner and then hit the sack. It has been a long day but everyone is very excited to be on the ice and ready to start their daily routine.

Make sure to listen to Keith's audio dispatch and check back again tomorrow for another update from the team.
