With warm temperatures of -5°F and a light and variable wind it was a nice first day heading South. The team covered 5.5 nautical miles and were taking it relatively easy as they acclimatize to the altitude. As you can see in the photo there was mostly cloud coverage but some blue sky here and there. When clouds made up most of the sky there was still enough of a shadow to help with navigation and enough contrast for decent visibility. This isn't always the case!
The team's daily distance will increase over the next couple of days as they become acclimatized and as they get into the rhythm of expedition life on the polar plateau. In the meantime, all is good and everyone is doing well :)
Check back again tomorrow for another update from the ice!
