The team has reached Vinson High Camp after a significant and beautiful climb with roughly 3,400 feet of elevation gain (1,020m). The route is mostly up fixed lines on slopes up to 45°. Everyone is likely happy to be done climbing for the day, well fed and relaxing in their sleeping bags.
As they climbed they were mostly facing the slope and watching their feet and the fixed line. But a quick look over their shoulders gave them an amazing view of Antarctic plains and the surrounding mountains. In that situation taking a break feels great for two reasons: a chance to catch your breath, and an attempt to take it ALL in before getting back to the grind of going uphill.
Their next moves will depend on a few things including the weather. We'll keep you posted as we learn more from the team. If you want to ask questions of the team or send messages feel free to send them to annie@polarexplorers.com.
Check again tomorrow for another update from Vinson!
